A Massachusetts man has been convicted by a jury for the rape and false imprisonment of a hotel clerk in Turlock, spotlighting the dangers faced by hospitality workers. According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, 32-year-old Osman Mukhammadiyev now faces nearly nine years in prison under California law.
The assault took place on May 6, 2022, at the Days Inn Hotel. Mukhammadiyev pretended he was having trouble with his room’s television and internet to lure the front desk clerk into his room. Once inside, he pushed her onto the bed and forcibly raped her.
District Attorney Jeff Laugero highlighted the victim’s bravery. She managed to fight back, escaped the room, and called 911. Police arrived quickly and found Mukhammadiyev near the hotel lobby, where the victim had locked herself while waiting for help. During questioning, he admitted to summoning the clerk and touching her, but denied the assault.
DNA evidence and a sexual assault exam confirmed the crime, leading to a clear conviction. Deputy District Attorney Vita Palazuelos prosecuted the case, while the Turlock Police Department was commended for its swift response and thorough investigation.
