Three suspects are in custody after stealing $15,000 worth of deodorant in a bizarre theft spree across Placer County.
According to the Roseville Police Department, the unusual crime wave struck between March and April, targeting local Safeway and CVS stores. Thieves stole such large quantities of deodorant that losses added up to $15,000.
“They were planning for the next decade of hot summers,” Roseville police joked.
Authorities revealed that the suspects weren’t just hoarding deodorant for personal use—they were part of a broader operation. The stolen goods were passed along to a third suspect known for reselling them at Bay Area flea markets.
“Because nothing says a great deal like flea market deodorant,” officials quipped.
Thanks to a coordinated effort involving the Santa Clara Police Department, Placer County District Attorney’s Office investigators, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Crisis Response Unit, law enforcement arrested all three individuals involved.
According to Roseville PD, after the arrests, officials recovered approximately $50,000 worth of stolen toiletries, including deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, and other bathroom essentials.
