The City of Phoenix will invest up to $4 million in studying and executing safety measures along Indian School Road between 39th and 91st avenues, which passes through west Phoenix and Maryvale.
This initiative received unanimous approval during last week’s city council meeting. A recent federal study indicated that this roadway experiences an average of nearly ten fatal accidents annually.
The proposed plan encompasses an evaluation of intersection improvements, installation of additional crosswalks, and enhancements to lighting in order to bolster safety for both drivers and pedestrians.Residents residing near Indian School Road are eager for these upgrades.
Jose Saldana, a long-term resident adjacent to the road, noted, “There have been numerous accidents at both 75th and 67th avenues along Indian School. Vehicles often speed through.”
