An officer from Apache Junction has tragically passed away after sustaining gunshot wounds while responding to a call on Monday. The police department identified the fallen officer as Gabriel Facio, who had served nearly four years with the force.
Facio was engaged in a response to reports of an armed individual near Ironwood Drive and Elliot Road. Upon arrival, officers attempted to issue commands to the suspect, who failed to comply, prompting the use of “less lethal” methods to gain his cooperation.

During the incident, the suspect discharged his weapon at the officers, who returned fire. Officer Facio was struck and subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
