An Australian journalist was hit by a rubber bullet during live coverage of immigration protests in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday.
Video from 9 News Australia captured the moment reporter Lauren Tomasi was struck in the leg during a live broadcast. An officer behind her appeared to raise a weapon and fire in her direction.

Tomasi, who was not wearing protective gear, cried out in pain but remained conscious. According to 9 News, she was “left sore but otherwise unharmed.”

In a statement, the network confirmed both Tomasi and her camera operator were safe and would continue reporting.
“This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers journalists can face while reporting from the frontlines of protests, underscoring the importance of their role in providing vital information,” the network said.
